Well, I have lots of things to catch up on! I was sick for two weeks then the anniversary of 9/11 really got to me this year.
Amelia is now crawling, sitting up and pulling up to standing. At the ripe old age of 7 1/2 months she really has me on my toes! She is a very sweet, easy going baby though so that helps :) She is very much a mama's girl and we are very bonded. I can't help but feel that this is how it was always meant to be, breastfeeding, babywearing, and a close mother-baby relationship that is just so special. Sure, sometimes when she cries because she only wants me when I'd rather be getting something else done can seem frustrating, but I just remind myself in those moments how precious this time is. Soon enough she won't want to be around me 24/7! Both kids are sleeping well, and even though Amelia is only just now starting to take to solids and is 90% breastfed, she gives me at least 12 straight hours at night.
Caden is a chatter box, even this week he has really refine his sentences and just tonight said "I don't like that music, mama!" and "thank you for sharing, daddy" ha ha. We've had a bit of a rough patch during the "terrible twos" lately but it seems to be getting better. He's a very emotional little boy and sometimes the constant whining or screaming just gets to me. But through all that God is teaching me patience and I pray that I can be the most patient, loving and positive mother I can be. I'm not there yet, but I keep trying.
More later!

Catching Up

Haircut!
Wow it's been a while! Lots of things going on in the Loper household lately!
Probably the biggest event that has happened this week is I cut all Amelia's hair off! I meant to just even it out a bit but ended up shaving it all! But I have to say, we all LOVE it! She is the cutest thing! And now she can wear all the headbands I bought her and they don't slip off like they used to ('cause ya know, that's important to a girl...) If you've ever had a baby with as much hair as a three year old I'm sure you understand how difficult it is to manage it!
Before
After
I'm loving her look and I think she agrees <3

Love Language
It's been a very hard week for me. My dearest husband has been away rafting through the Grand Canyon and has no cell service, so I have not talked to him in a long time. It's been very tough, but I am counting my blessings and have had some awesome friends come and keep me company. It's funny how many times "love languages" have come up this week. I am pretty much bilingual in "quality time" and "words of affirmation", though quality time is slightly higher. I feel the most blessed when people spend time with me, and lately I've come to realize just how important that is. Today my friend Lizzy and I spent most of the day chatting and driving to different places and she took some beautiful pictures of the children at the park (thank you Lizzy!!). She was amazing with this little boy who was sort of a mess of emotions, and helped me greatly with the kids in general. Sorry he stole your cake Lizzy. ha ha.
Here is Cade at 2 1/2 years and Amelia Violet at 5 months.
Enjoy!

Getting Healthy
Recently I've set up some new "goals" in my life. One of those is to slim down a bit; I've got about 15 pounds that I could do without, and I'm in the process of getting rid of it. I love sugar and I eat when I'm bored (which can happen pretty often when you're home with two little ones all day). Obviously with breastfeeding my options are limited as far as a diet, but I've found a nice modified healthy diet in the book "The Dukan Diet". I bought this book a few months ago after hearing about it during the royal wedding (don't laugh) and after reading up on this French diet quite a bit it sounded really good. I can't do an overly strict diet, pure proteins and vegetables only would affect my milk, but I'm starting to do a few of the recommendations. For instance, this morning I made my first "dukan gillette" and it was quite yummy. I'm trying to limit sugar as I'm a total addict, as well as salt/sodium, so this was a nice filling alternative for breakfast. It's made with oat bran, egg whites, fat free greek yogurt and sweetener. The bran is very good for you, it's full of fibre and expands to help you feel full. The protein from the yogurt and egg helps you body burn more calories to digest it. This is how it looked:
Not too bad, eh? Cade even tried to steal some from me. I'm also loving the focus on vegetables, because although I like them, I don't get enough. They all go to Cade. I'm also trying to phase out at least some of my caffeinated coffee in the morning. I purchased some decaf and I'm slowly mixing it in, as well as using a little sweetener to replace some of the sugar. I think Amelia Violet is possibly reacting to the coffee I drink in the mornings, so I'd like to see if she does better now. Usually if I just have some in the morning she is fine, but if I have any in the afternoon/evening she is up until midnight! Even with decaf!
So these things are all part of a bigger picture of improving me inside and out, and trying to get healthy in both those areas.

Shattered
It's interesting what has been going in with me lately. I feel a change in the air, like when autumn's first bite of cold air starts to draw the summer season to a close. My heart and soul are sensing something and the Holy Spirit is doing some good work. I don't talk about it a lot, but my emotional torment has been pretty intense these past 9 years. I've been through some things that have completely torn me apart and shattered my heart into a million pieces. I've been dragged around and messed about and it totally wrecked some areas of my character, and I hate that it has had such a power over me. I feel like I've been fighting my whole life, trying to navigate my world the best way that I could, but finding hurt at every corner, sadness at every turn. As a result I've looked for acceptance and love in the wrong places. I think that's why I am so determined to be the best mother I can be. I strive to fix what has been broken in generations past. I am trying to let God guide me and let Him in to heal my half sewn up heart. I have an amazing life now, a husband who loves me completely, and two amazing children that, even now, I can't believe are mine. They are just so beautiful. And I have never been happier! Thanks be to God for blessing me so abundantly, for saving me from tragedy. I know only too well that it could have gone a very different way. But He saw me when no one else did, He took me in His arms and guided me with his soft touch. Though I did not know it at the time, I was very well taken care of. I'm crying now just at the thought of it.
The recent reconciliation with my sister has brought up so many things that I have buried. I've had to recount some of the mess that I lived through. So now I feel exposed and a little raw and need to let God do His work and start to heal me properly, in the way only He can.

My VBAC Birth Story 1/31-2/1 2011
Well here is my birth story, I wrote it a 2 weeks post-partum so sorry if I sound sleep deprived ;) : PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ABOUT BIRTH RELATED DETAILS. You have been warned!
On Monday Jan 31st I discovered that I had lost my mucous plug at 5am, during one of my 20 trips to the bathroom during the night. Though I knew it didn't always mean labor was starting, I had a hard time sleeping due to nervousness, I couldn't believe that this might be the day I was going to give birth! At around 7:30am the contractions began, and after a few hours I let our babysitter (Sarah) know to come over soon. I had my 39 week appointment that day so decided to go to that to get checked so that if it was just a false alarm I hadn't gone through the trouble of going to the hospital. When I got there the contractions were 3 to 5 minutes apart, about 30 seconds long. My lovely sweet doctor was out sick that day so I had to see another, who tried to get me to schedule a c-section for the following week "just incase". She was such a downer! I mean I know the risks, you don't have to lecture me while I'm in labor! Wouldn't you know it, my contractions slowed down a ton while I was in the exam room, but I was 3cm and 80% effaced at that point. I was told to go home, the doc. didn't seem convinced that I was in labor.
So on the way home we got Starbucks (strawberry frappe for me ) and had some great couple time before we got back to the house. Sarah wanted to meet her parents for lunch so we let her go, and within the hour the contractions started picking up again and we felt that we should go to the hospital soon. Once she returned we headed off.
When we arrived we had to sit down and check in with a nurse. When asked what my biggest fear was Nate quipped "an earthquake?" ha ha. I found that pretty funny when I wasn't having a contraction. I ended up saying the "baby exit" part. We were then put in the monitoring rooms (I forget what they're called) and I changed into my own gown that I got for Christmas. I was still 3cm (super nice doctor checked me, she was so smiley). We were told to go walk around for an hour, this was at 4:50pm. Within 10 minutes of walking I was hit with some huge contractions! After 30 minutes I started crying that I couldn't do this and PLEASE could I be 4cm so they could admit me and give me the epidural! I got checked again and I was almost 4 so I was admitted, thank God! The anesthesiologist took a long time to arrive (he was kind of a jerk too) and by about 6:30pm I was comfortable. I had not gone into this wanting to go drug free so I went as long as I could tolerate it. I have a pretty low pain threshold and those big contractions hit me harder than I could handle.
I was checked at 9pm and I was 6cm and 90%! The nice doctor broke my water and I tried to rest a little. Around that time (I think) I got a headache so was given some Tylenol. At about 11:45pm I felt a ton of pressure so called the nurse and she checked me, I was complete and +2! With the nurse I pushed while we waited for the doctor who was delivering another baby (the only other patient in L&D, can you believe it?). I got the hang of pushing and when the dr came in (a new one as they had changed shifts, I never even saw her face as she was wearing a mask the whole time LOL) I continued to push. Thanfully my headache went away during this time, and the possibility of rupture never even once crossed my mind! She was doing a lot of massage but finally said she was going to help me, gave me a shot of lidocain because I was so nervous about being cut and I heard two or three snips, yuck. With some more pushing (without an ounce of pain, it was awesome) her head popped out! It was like an audible "pop!". She suctioned her mouth and nose and she started crying before she was all the way out. Out she came at 1:17am on 2/1/11 and she was HUGE! The predicted 5-6 pound baby was almost 9 pounds! I'm so glad they told me she was small, it really eased my mind (even if it was a lie ha ha). She had a lot of vernix too, and DARK hair! I was not expecting that at all! And she did not a cone-head at all. She layed her on my chest and it was amazing....such a wonderful experience. She turned out to be 8lbs 13 oz & 20" long. If she was born on her due date or beyond she probably would have been bigger than her brother (9lbs 3oz, 20" at birth).
I asked how many stitches I got and the dr said she couldn't even count. Yikes! I tore a little beyond the cut but it was only 2nd degree thankfully.
I got to eat right away and I stayed pretty numb "down there" for a good day afterwards. I was so happy that she made it to the 1st, that way my kids had their own birthday month! All in all labor was 18 hours from the first contraction to the birth, but only 7 in the hospital. Only pushed for less than an hour. I can't get over how AMAZING my body is, it knew just what to do, like a pro LOL!
The recovery was much easier than my c-section, though the first few days were very sore. But now I can't even tell! It was a wonderful, pain free birth and it couldn't have gone any better. God is so good!!!
